Student Life at Avalon and What to Expect as a New Avalonian

YOU MADE IT!

We are so excited to have you join the Avalon family! Now that you are on your way to Curaçao, we are sure you have so many questions about what to expect when you touch down on the island to start or continue your medical school journey.

Here are some basic expectations for you to keep in mind:

  • You should expect to work hard with other dedicated students.
  • You should expect to have a cultural experience like no other with your new diverse student body.
  • You should expect to have research opportunities that will help prepare you for your career in the medical field.
  • You should expect to gain a wealth of knowledge from experienced faculty and staff.

In addition to all of these expectations, you should also expect an enriching student life experience through the efforts put forth by our Student Government Association (SGA).

Avalon’s SGA works hard to recognize the diversity in the student body and actively organizes events that celebrate the various cultures and religious backgrounds found at Avalon.

For new students, it is important to get engaged in student life because it offers the chance to build relationships, experience new activities, and in some cases, have a little taste of home!

Here are some other expectations you should have as you get ready to arrive in Curaçao:

  • You should expect to find a home away from home.
  • You should expect to make lifelong friends.
  • You should expect to be seen, heard, and respected for your diversity and differences.
  • When it is time to leave the island, you should expect to depart with a new appreciation for the people and world around you.

We are so excited to have you join the Avalon family! Now that you are on your way to Curaçao, be sure to ask questions, join student life early, and prepare to work hard.
