SGA & AMSA Team of Avalon University School of Medicine
What is SGA and how SGA helps students at Avalon
The Student Government Association (SGA) is a student-run organization that represents the medical student body and provides assistance with school-related matters. The SGA also provides a means of communication between the students and faculty and assists in academic-related initiatives. A few of the other responsibilities governed by the SGA are organizing tutoring for students, Health Fairs, Evidence Based Medicine (EBM) lectures, and volunteer work at the local hospital.
Though the priority at Avalon University is the education, the SGA provides entertaining activities throughout the semester. A few of the events the SGA organizes are culture shows, volleyball and tennis tournaments, talent shows, trips to the beach as well as various fun filled activities and dinners.
The SGA is a product of the hard work and dedication exhibited by the medical students of Avalon University. We appreciate feedback and are constantly looking to improve our school in many ways. Elections for executive positions for SGA are held towards the end of every semester.
SGA Team of May – Aug 2026

I’m Gabrielle John, an MD4 student and President of the Student Government Association. Having previously served as Vice President, I am passionate about student leadership, advocacy, and fostering a connected, empowering community where every medical student can thrive.

Hi everyone! I’m Aysha Akhter, serving as your SGA Vice President and Treasurer for this incredible summer semester. I had the honour of working as treasurer last semester for SGA and am excited to be serving on SGA again. I’m excited to work alongside the SGA team to help create a stronger sense of community and make student life more enjoyable for everyone.
My goal in these roles is simple: great events, great food, and a supportive environment where students can connect, unwind, and feel like they can get away from the stress of medical school. I also hope to help strengthen the communication between students and faculty through these SGA events!

Hi! I’m Zaina Mohamed Kamil, an MD1 student and SGA Secretary, and I’m excited to be part of the SGA team again this semester. Originally from Canada, I’ve pursued my medical studies in Canada and Türkiye before continuing at Avalon. I’m passionate about Pediatrics and enjoy walks, watching shows, and building meaningful connections. Hope to make more this semester!

Hey everyone! My name is Aditi Soni and I am the Premed/ BS representative. I’m so excited to be a part of SGA this semester and hope to help make this semester full of amazing experiences we can all share together!

Hi, I’m Matt, a MD5 student passionate about leadership, collaboration, and helping build a strong student community. As MD5 rep, I aim to advocate for student needs, and help strengthen communication between students and administration to ensure every voice is heard. I bring dedication, teamwork, and a commitment to supporting my peers both academically and personally throughout our medical school journey
