How to Write a Personal Statement: Pick the topic that best represents you!
When most students think about how to write a personal statement for their college application, their first instinct may be to include everything from their name to their hobbies. But did you know when writing your personal statement, you can pick one topic to focus on? It could be an event, social cause, or anything significant in your life that shapes who you are as a person today, and what makes you stand out from the crowd.
For example, when thinking about how to write a personal statement for our admissions process, you could write about a specific moment in your life that made you decide to pursue medicine. WHAT happened that resulted in you having the passion of becoming a doctor? WHO inspired that decision? You could also write about how a social movement, or a hardship you have endured, has shaped your thoughts and beliefs into what they are today. Whatever topic inspires you the most, tell us about it!
At Avalon University School of Medicine, we want to know you as an individual and what makes you who you are! Due to our holistic admissions process, your personal statement plays an important role in the Admissions Committee’s decision. Please keep in mind that although content is important, spelling, and good grammar are essential as well. Please be sure to proofread your statement and clear any errors before submitting it with your application.
