Serving as the Student Expert for the Accreditation Agency of Curaçao (AAC) site visit of Caribbean International University was one of the most meaningful experiences of my medical education. It allowed me to represent the student perspective while working alongside faculty and accreditation leaders to highlight our institution’s strengths and identify opportunities for continued growth. Contributing to the accreditation process deepened my understanding of quality improvement and the standards that shape medical education.
This experience reinforced my passion for academic medicine and healthcare leadership. I am grateful for the opportunity to advocate for my fellow students and play a role in strengthening the educational environment for future physicians. It was an honor to contribute to a process that helps ensure excellence in medical education.
Brittany Smith is an MS-4 at Avalon University School of Medicine (Class of 2027) and an MHA candidate at Franklin University (Class of 2027). She serves on Avalon’s Medical Education Taskforce and the AMSA WSL Committee, and recently contributed as a Student Expert for the National Accreditation Agency of Curaçao during the university’s site visit.
