Avalon Students Can Now Practice In California
Effective January 1, 2020, Avalon graduates will be able to apply for residency and medical practice in the state of California. The Medical Board of California states that the medical school must be accredited by one of the approved accrediting bodies on the ECFMG or WFME website. This is great news for Avalon since we are accredited by both CAAM-HP and ACCM, which are recognized by WFME and acceptable for ECFMG.
More specifically, the Medical Board of California will no longer issue Postgraduate Training Authorization Letters (PTAL) to international medical school graduates. As a result, international medical school graduates applying for the 2020 residency match will not require a PTAL and may apply for residency through the Electronic Residency Application Service.
