Dear Medical Student: DO NOT WAIT! Register for USMLE STEP 1 IMMEDIATELY after CBSE!

Avalon University requires all students to complete the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 Examination PRIOR to their clinical rotations. After completing your Basic Science courses, you will complete the Comprehensive Basic Science Examination (CBSE) prior to Step 1.

Registering and applying for Step 1 immediately after completing the CBSE is crucial for several reasons.

Improved Information Retention:

The information learned in your basic sciences is fresh in your mind, making it easier to retain and recall when taking the USMLE Step 1. This will lead to a better performance on the exam and increase the chances of passing on the first attempt.

The earlier students take Step 1 after passing the CBSE, the more likely they are to pass. A CBSE score report with a grade of 78, the score report states: ‘Based on your performance on this CBSE, your estimated probability of passing Step 1 if you test within a week is 99%.

Increased Test Date Availability

Delaying the USMLE Step 1 may result in limited test dates and long wait times. By taking Step 1 immediately, you can avoid any potential delays in your medical career by securing a test date that fits your timeline.

Early Feedback

The results of Step 1 can provide valuable feedback on areas of strength and weakness in your medical knowledge. This information can be used to improve performance in subsequent exams and future medical practice.
