As we close another remarkable year at Avalon University School of Medicine, we find ourselves reflecting on the milestones, triumphs, and stories that have shaped our community. Each year brings its own challenges and opportunities, but 2025 stands out as a testament to the resilience, dedication, and excellence of our students, faculty, administration, and alumni. It has been a year defined not only by measurable success, but by the spirit of perseverance that lies at the heart of Avalon.
One of our proudest accomplishments this year was the extraordinary residency match outcome. Fifty-eight Avalon graduates secured residency positions across the United States and Canada – a remarkable achievement for any medical school, but especially meaningful for an institution of our size. With an average graduating class of approximately fifty students, matching fifty-eight physicians speaks volumes about the strength of our academic foundation, the commitment of our faculty, and the determination of our students. Each match represents a dream realized, a door opened, and a future physician stepping into the next chapter of their calling. We celebrate every one of them.
Among the many moments that inspired us this year, one letter in particular captured the essence of why Avalon exists. In December, we received a message from a recent graduate who had just reached the halfway point of her first year of residency. She shared that she had scored higher than all of the other interns on the in-training exam, a remarkable accomplishment in a demanding environment. Her concluding words were simple but powerful:
“Thank you Avalon for the opportunity and allowing me the second chance I really needed.”
Her gratitude reflects something deeper than academic preparation. It speaks to Avalon’s mission of opening doors, nurturing potential, and believing in students even when others may not. Stories like hers remind us that medical education is not only about knowledge and skill, but about mentorship, compassion, kindness, and the transformative power of a second chance.
As we look forward to the year ahead, we do so with optimism and excitement. The world of medicine continues to evolve rapidly, and Avalon remains committed to preparing physicians who are not only clinically excellent but adaptable, empathetic, kind, and globally minded. We anticipate new research initiatives, expanded clinical partnerships, and continued innovation in our curriculum.
