What does it take to increase Caribbean medical schools ranking?

At Avalon University School of Medicine (AUSOM), we say that Caribbean medical schools ranking is increased by the success of students. The light of these successes reflects on the quality of education and support from the medical school. Medical students find during their education, they are also presented with opportunities which increase their experience, education, and leadership skills.

In the month of October, four AUSOM clinical students had one of these exciting opportunities to grow their skills by coordinating and presenting in the 5th Annual Endovascular Solutions for Africa. “Endovascular surgery is in its infantile stage,” says AUSOM student, Saad Akhter. Akhter, who volunteered his free time, acted as a coordinator and presenter during the conference.

When asked why she felt that this event was important, AUSOM student, Yati Gupta, stated as mentioned below:

“My experience with this conference was absolutely exhilarating…” and “this conference was
important as it focuses on solutions to strengthen/ bring access to medicine in rural parts of
Africa.”

Gupta had the opportunity to act as a coordinator and presenter during the conference.

Jennifer Onyamaenu, fellow AUSOM student and Nigerian citizen, had a personal interest in this conference and her presentation. She stated,

“I realized that the educational prospects of
the topic I would be discussing… could shed light on how patients…could be treated despite the
challenges and financial constraints that healthcare providers face in Africa.”

Along with Akhter and Gupta, AUSOM student Jonathan Evans participated in this conference as a coordinator and presenter.
