Why Avalon?
Quality Medication Education, Low Tuition Costs, Small Class Size, and MORE…
Choosing the best school to pursue your medical education can be tricky. There are so many medical schools to choose from! In the United States alone, there are close to 200 medical schools that are accredited to grant an MD or DO degree. Canada has 17 medical schools but only 7 schools are open to international (outside of Canada) students. If you are one of those who enter one of these schools, you are only one of a few!
“…while these schools might allow international students to apply to their programs, there’s no guarantee that they’ll take any, and when they do, it’s often only in the single digits. Just 16 non-contract foreign students enrolled in Canadian institutions for their first year of medical school in 2018–2019” (Shemmassian, 2024).
Not only is the “where” important when choosing a school, the “why” should also be considered. Here at Avalon, we like to know why.
- Why are you, the student, making the decision to pursue your education at Avalon?
- Is it because we offer an accredited 4-year MD program at one of the lowest tuition rates in the Caribbean?
- Is it because Avalon’s qualified teaching staff is actively engaged with the education of our students in our small classes?
A collection of responses in the month of January lists the top three reasons why students are drawn to Avalon University School of Medicine:
