IMMIGRATION: One of the Little-Known Caribbean Medical Schools Prerequisites

Generally, everyone knows about medical schools prerequisites. For example, Avalon University requires a minimum of 90 credit hours, and all required prerequisite courses have to be completed before an applicant can be considered for our 4 year MD program. However, medical schools prerequisites can go beyond just eligibility criteria.

Did you know that some medical schools prerequisites for entry into a semester include the ability to get to school in time for classes to begin? Avalon University School of Medicine has made its home on the wonderful island of Curaçao. As an independent country, Curaçao asks that all Avalon students go through an immigration process so the students can remain on the island for the duration of their studies with Avalon University.

North American Students (United States of America & Canada)

Curaçao Immigration allows students from North America to arrive on the island as a temporary visitor for an initial 90 days. After 90 days, these students should have completed the immigration process to secure their Landing Permit*

International Students (Outside of North America)

Some international students are permitted on the island for an initial 90 days. After 90 days, these students should have completed the immigration process to secure their Landing Permit*. Students in this category do NOT need an additional visa.

On the other hand, some international students are not permitted on the island until they have completed the process for their landing permit and obtained an additional visa.

Avalon University aids students through the immigration process. We do everything in our power to make sure that students can meet these little-known medical schools prerequisites.

IF YOU DO NOT SEE YOUR COUNTRY ON THIS LIST, YOU DO REQUIRE A VISA AND A LANDING PERMIT TO ARRIVE ON THE ISLAND.

*Landing Permit– proof that the Curaçao government has permitted the holder to stay as a temporary resident rather than as a tourist.

Note: Immigration requirements change from time to time, please check the check list you get from the university for the latest required documents.
