How do Medical Schools in Canada Compare to Avalon University School of Medicine?
Medical schools in Canada and Avalon University School of Medicine are both institutions that offer education in the field of medicine. However, there are several key differences between the two.
Accreditation
Medical schools in Canada are accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS). As a Caribbean medical school, Avalon University is accredited by the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM) and Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP). It is important to note that Avalon University is the only medical school in the Caribbean currently accredited by both ACCM and CAAM-HP. Though the accrediting bodies differ between medical schools in Canada and those in the Caribbean, these parties ensure that students are receiving a quality education that sets them up for success. Graduates from Avalon University are eligible to practice medicine in Canada after passing the qualifying exams.

Admission Requirements
Medical schools in Canada often require applicants to have competitive MCAT scores. Avalon University offers an MD program that does not currently require an MCAT, making it easier for some students to get accepted if they have not had the opportunity to take the exam.
Avalon University School of Medicine is proud to host students from around the world. Shown above, you will find the smiling faces of some of our Canadian students. While our Canadian students are thousands of miles from home, they are able to consider the island of Curaçao a second home with Avalon University.
