Continuing Education Continues at Avalon University

At Avalon University School of Medicine, we believe that continuing education should not solely apply to our students. Members of our faculty, staff, and administration also make the effort to further their education and pursue personal research opportunities while providing students with a superior medical education.

Recently, Dr. Sireesha Bala, Dean of Basic Sciences, and Dr. Reshma Fatteh, Associate Dean of Admissions, continued their education through the writing of research and academic papers, among other efforts, and their attendance at the upcoming International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) Conference in Cancun, Mexico. Dr. Suma Alluri, Chair of Promotions Committee & Professor of Pathology also strives to continue her education through the presentation of her research efforts and has been invited to the highly anticipated summit, the International Summit on Vaccines Research and Development (ISVRD), in the capacity of an Invited Speaker.

International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) Conference

In an exciting turn of events, Dr. Bala, Fellow of IAMSE, is gearing up to attend the highly anticipated International Association of Medical Science Educators (IAMSE) Conference. This esteemed conference is set to take place June 10-13, 2023, in the stunning coastal city of Cancun, Mexico. Dr.Bala’s research and teaching prowess has earned her a spot at the prestigious event, as her abstract titled “Can Medical Education Electives promote teaching and research interests among medical students?” has been accepted for a poster presentation. With a focus on the transformative power of medical education electives, Dr.Bala’s work seeks to shed light on the potential of these programs to ignite a passion for teaching and research among aspiring physicians. Her participation in the IAMSE Conference promises to be an enriching experience, where she will have the opportunity to connect with fellow medical educators and share insights that could shape the future of medical training.

Alongside Dr. Bala, Dr. Reshma is greatly looking forward to attending the IAMSE Conference. The abstract, “A Multi-institutional Study on the Effectiveness of constructive feedback on medical students in medical education,” co-authored by Ye Phyo Aung and Dr. Reshma, has also been accepted as a poster presentation at the conference.

This conference promises to be a valuable experience on multiple fronts. In essence, it offers a platform to delve into the latest research and advancements in medical education, in addition to educating attendees about cutting-edge methodologies, innovative teaching techniques, and evidence-based practices. Another key benefit of this conference is that it will allow Dr. Bala and Dr. Reshma to connect with fellow educators, researchers, and professionals from across the globe to open doors for more collaborative opportunities.

International Summit on Vaccines Research and Development

The International Summit on Vaccines Research and Development will be held on September 11-13, 2023, in sunny San Francisco, USA. “The meeting brings together World Class participants and young researchers looking for opportunities for exchanges that cross the traditional discipline boundaries and allows them to resolve multidisciplinary challenging problems that only a venue of this nature can offer (ISVRD, 2023)”. This noteworthy event provides attendees with the ability to share state-of-the-art developments and technologies focusing on the research and development of vaccines.

Dr. Suma was selected to be an Invited Speaker at the ISVRD Summit after organizers heard her presentation during the International Conference and Expo on Nanotechnology & Nanomaterials (ICENN) in 2021. Though the ICENN conference Dr. Suma presented at was conducted online due to the pandemic, her dedication to the field of nanotechnology and continuing research was regarded as though she was physically in front of the captive audience. Dr. Suma will be sharing recent developments in the field of nanotechnology at the upcoming ISVRD Summit through her presentation on “Nanotechnology & Pathogenetic Mechanisms of Covid Vaccines”.

The efforts of Dr. Bala, Dr. Reshma, and Dr. Suma do not go unnoticed by the Avalon Community. We are continuously proud of the strides taken by our faculty, staff, and administration and their commitment to the medical field. We wish Dr. Bala, Dr. Reshma, and Dr. Suma safe travels to these highly anticipated events and look forward to learning more about their experiences.
