Avalon University School of Medicine is thrilled to announce its exceptional achievement of a 100% pass rate on the USMLE Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) examination in the first quarter of the academic year. This remarkable success is a testament to Avalon’s commitment to excellence in medical education and the dedication of our faculty and students.

At Avalon, we understand the interconnectedness of various components in medical education and how they contribute to overall success. Our rigorous curriculum and teaching methodologies ensure that students are well-prepared for the challenges of clinical practice. One such critical component is the NBME Shelf Exams, which serve as a benchmark for assessing students’ knowledge and readiness for the Clinical Comprehensive Science Exam (CCSE) and USMLE Step 2 CK examinations.

Recognizing the importance of strong performance on the NBME Shelf Exams, Avalon implemented a higher passing score requirement in January of 2023. This decision was aimed at elevating academic standards and better-preparing students for the rigors of clinical practice. By raising the bar, we challenged our students to strive for excellence and achieve their full potential.

Moreover, Avalon is thrilled to report a significant improvement in our Clinical Comprehensive Science Exam (CCSE) pass rate. In 2023, we achieved a remarkable increase in our passing CCSE rate, surpassing the previous year by an impressive 18 points. Building upon this success, we had another improvement of 10 points this year. It’s worth noting that alongside these advancements, there was also an elevation in the overall passing score, rising by 8.4 points to reach 234. This notable enhancement underscores our continuous efforts to enhance student learning outcomes and ensure readiness for the Step 2 CK examination.

The results speak for themselves. Higher scores on the NBME Shelf Exams and improved performance on the CCSE have translated into higher scores for the USMLE Step 2 CK examination, ultimately culminating in a first quarter, 100% pass rate. This achievement highlights the effectiveness of Avalon’s integrated approach to medical education, where each component builds upon the other to ensure comprehensive learning and success.
