Avalon University School of Medicine is a North American curriculum based medical program and our graduates are geared for a career in medicine in the United States and Canada.  AUSOM has taken all necessary steps to ensure that AUSOM’s graduates are eligible for U.S. and Canadian medical licensure. Avalon University School of Medicine is chartered and recognized by the Government of Curacao.  This charter entitles AUSOM to grant a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree to students who have successfully completed the medical school’s approved curriculum in medical education, which includes an emphasis on the medical licensing exams and being a competent practicing physician.

Our medical school is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools with an ECFMG® Sponsor Note. For the graduation years indicated in the Sponsor Note, our students and graduates are eligible to apply to ECFMG for ECFMG Certification and USMLE® as a step towards ECFMG Certification.

The World Directory of Medical Schools is assigned by WHO to replace it’s own directory of medical schools. The World Directory of Medical Schools is developed through a partnership between the World Federation For Medical Education (WFME) and the Foundation of Advancement of International Medical Education and Research (FAIMER). The World Directory provides a comprehensive compilation of the information previously contained in the IMED and Avicenna directories.

AUSOM is also listed by the Medical Council of Canada (MCC). This allows AUSOM graduates to pursue Canadian residency positions and Canadian medical licensure. This also includes AUSOM students taking the Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Examination (MCCEE), which is the Canadian equivalent of the USMLE.

AUSOM is recognized with the Medical Council of India. Being an MCI approved medical school, AUSOM graduates are eligible to practice medicine in India. Moreover, MCI has recognized Avalon University School of Medicine for Loans in India.

By 2023, all Caribbean medical schools are required to be CAAM-HP accredited. We are currently in the process of acquiring this accreditation. This regulation does not affect those students enrolling for 2017 and 2018.
