Women’s History Month: Introducing Dr. Alaa

Even when her path to becoming a doctor was bumpy, Dr. Alaa Altahir persevered, and the knowledge she gained led her to obtaining her MBBS from Alzaiem Alazhari University in 2013.

After receiving her degree, she pursued work in the medical field for more than 3 years gaining exposure to numerous genetic disorders, tropical diseases, chronic illnesses, and life saving surgeries.

While working in the medical field, Dr. Alaa was amazed at how quickly the life of an individual or family can be changed in mere seconds or minutes, especially in the field of pediatrics. After experiencing catastrophic cases, and witnessing patient improvement after ABCDs (Airway, Breathing, Circulation, and Defibrillation), the adrenaline rush that comes with working in a hospital made her realize her full potential as a doctor.

In 2018, Dr. Alaa joined the Avalon University School of Medicine family as a professor of Histology and Embryology. Dr. Alaa appreciates how crucial knowledge is and how important it is to pass it on to the future generation of practicing physicians. It is here that she educates and enlightens students with the knowledge she has gained throughout her career, and where she herself continuously learns new information and methods.

Marie Curie once said, “Nothing in this world is to be feared, it is only to be understood”; Dr. Alaa not only agrees with this quote, but has lived it. She is never afraid to learn something new in her field and utilize it to her and everyone’s advantage.

We are very happy to have her as a part of our Avalon Family, and can’t wait to see where her expertise takes us next!
