Dr. Andrii Shmarhalov
M.D., Ph.D.
Dr. Shmarhalov graduated from Luhansk State Medical University (Luhansk, Ukraine) in 2010, where he worked as an Assistant Professor in Clinical Anatomy and Operative Surgery Department for 4 years. In 2014 he accomplished a dissertation: “Individual anatomical variability of size, shape, and position of the occipital bone” (under the supervision of professor Yurii Vovk a famous Ukrainian scientist, President of Ukrainian Clinical Anatomy Association), and received a Ph.D. degree in Anatomy. In 2014-2017 Dr. Shmarhalov worked as an Assistant Professor of Human Anatomy Department, Kharkiv National Medical University (Kharkiv, Ukraine), where he taught Gross, Clinical and Neuroanatomy.
Dr. Shmarhalov is the author of 1 textbook, 30 scientific works, and 8 patents. Also, he is a current member of the following organizations:
- American Association for Anatomy,
- Association for Medical Education in Europe (AMEE),
- Ukrainian Clinical Anatomy Association,
- Ukrainian Society of Anatomy, Histology, Embryology, and Topographic Anatomy.
Dr. Shmarhalov is an Associate Professor of Basic Science at Avalon University School of Medicine. In his work with students, Dr. Shmarhalov combines classical methods of teaching Anatomy; such as demonstrating on the cadaver, involving students in the dissection process, manufacturing natural specimens, and methods based on modern technologies – the use of three-dimensional virtual models, various applications and digital images. He strives to form a habit among students to study the details with a mandatory look on the part of the practical application.
