  • Observation – Observation includes observation of students during clinical rotations and also during group discussions of basic sciences

  • Examination – Examinations include both multiple choice questions and other formats of assessments conducted for basic sciences and NBME shelf exams.

  • Practical Exams/labs include all lab exams conducted for basic sciences including standardized patient-based assessments

Educational Objectives

AUSOMs primary objective is to educate students in the basic and clinical sciences. At the end of the 4-year education, students are expected to acquire knowledge and experience by self-learning and direct patient care under supervision. During clinical rotations, students are exposed to a wide variety of patients, families, and members of the healthcare team. The students are educated and trained to behave professionally with empathy and compassion toward patients. During this time, they also develop critical thinking and communication skills.

AUSOM’s goal is to provide a quality medical education and, more importantly, to instil compassion in students to serve communities locally and around the world. This is achieved through the following objectives:

  • Prepare students for a rigorous and challenging medical education.
  • Promote problem-solving skills and critical thinking.
  • Incorporate the concept of evidence-based teaching into practice.
  • Instil compassion and empathy as a primary concept in the practice of medicine.
  • Incorporate research as an ongoing study tool.

Prepare students for all aspects of the practice of medicine including economic and legal issues.
