Dear prospective students,
As the Executive Dean of Avalon University School of Medicine, it is my privilege to speak with confidence about our medical program. From the student selection process, to the curriculum and training, our program is designed to develop students into competent practicing physicians.
The curriculum we follow is comprehensive and meets the highest standards of medical education. We have certain criteria to accept students and we want to give an opportunity to those that possess a serious approach to the medical profession. Personal characteristics of an applicant such as motivation, maturity, compassion and ambition for a career in medicine also play a very important role in our selection process.
Our curriculum reflects the curricula of the best US medical schools. We evaluate and train students rigorously by giving monthly exams, daily quizzes and assignments designed to prepare the students for the medical licensing exams. We are proud to announce that our school is the first Caribbean medical school to successfully implement a daily quiz program consisting of medical licensing exam type questions for each subject.
The faculty is crucial to the success of any medical student, and we have dedicated professors that are well qualified and have great experience in training medical students. The teaching faculty has experience and is familiarized with the medical licensing exams, and proficiently prepares students for these exams. With our small class sizes, our faculty is able to take a personal interest in each student’s success.
Not only do we concentrate on the theoretical aspects of medicine, but we emphasize practical education. With the help of cadavers, we also utilize plastinated organs which are excellent tools for teaching gross anatomy and it allows students to understand the human body as a whole. We are the first Caribbean medical school to use these plastinated organs to teach gross anatomy. We also have microscopes and slides for Histology and Pathology labs. With our dedicated facility to conduct the various labs, students will gain the experience needed to fully understand medicine from a practical purpose.
In addition to the superior faculty and educational standards, the location of the school magnifies the passion for learning. Curacao is a beautiful island that provides a true academic environment for our campus.
Last but not least, our school has a caring administrative staff. Everyone is friendly, sincere and always approachable. We want to make sure you are comfortable while pursuing your career in the field of medicine. We wish you all the best for your future academic endeavors and welcome to Avalon University School of Medicine.
